GS1500M Low Power Wi-Fi Module Family
Product Overview
The GS1500M is a fully certified module offering quick, easy and cost effective way for OEMs to enable leading edge Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g/n) in their platforms. The module provides multiple serial UART or SPI interfaces, enabling connection to any embedded design utilizing a 8/16/32-bit microcontroller via simple commands. The GS1500M is an ideal solution for OEMs with no or limited Wi-Fi or RF expertise, as it dramatically reduces development time and eliminates the burden of testing and certification, allowing customers to exclusively focus on their core platform. The module supports Wi-Fi PHY rates up to 72.2 Mbps, is fully compliant with 802.11b/g/n and meets Wi-Fi Alliance and worldwide regulatory requirements. GS1500M also supports the newly available Wi-Fi Direct standard from Wi-Fi Alliance. This enables the module with best-in-class peer to peer networking which allows Wi-Fi devices to connect to one another without an access point, enabling easy transfer of content anytime, anywhere.
Multiple software configurations are available for running a stack or network services on the module. For applications utilizing a small 8 bit microcontroller host, the module supports a serial to Wi-Fi function and runs the full Wi-Fi and TCP/IP networking stacks, completely offloading the host. For applications utilizing more powerful microcontrollers, the networking stack and services can reside on the host while the module provides the IP to Wi-Fi functionality. In addition, it supports WEP/WPA/WPA2 security, Adhoc as well as Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) for ease of provisioning.
The module Part Number is single sided, pin compatible with previous GS1011M module, with castellation on the edges for I/O connection so module can be soldered down on customer application base-board.

Wi-Fi Software Development Kit
Product Overview
The GainSpan Software Development Kit (SDK) enables firmware engineers to extend middleware software provided by GainSpan or develop embedded applications for the GS1011. Whether the design integrates the GS1011 module with a host microcontroller (MCU) or uses the GS1011 SoC, developers have increased design of and flexibility in firmware running on the GS1011.
This SDK contains a development board with the GS1011MEE module, embedded software (most in source code), configuration management system, firmware update system, networking middleware, RTOS, device drivers, an integrated development environment (IDE) and JTAG hardware. Two SDK options are available: Basic and Professional SDKs.
With the Professional SDK, software development teams have access to source code for the GainSpan embedded software and can design & run highly custom applications for the GS1011 SoC and GS1011 modules. Software engineers can use and modify sample applications as a baseline for new ones. With most of the GEPS software available in source, software engineers can scale-down the binary size as necessary.
With the Basic SDK, software development teams can expand embedded web pages for device specific configuration (GainSpan provides Wi-Fi and IP network configuration pages) and expand the Serial to Wi-Fi interface software for custom APIs. Software engineers can extend basic capabilities of the firmware on the GS1011 Modules.
Development Board
GainSpan development board contains the GS1011MEE ( GS1011MEE Evaluation Boards Product Brief), Wi-Fi subsystem and connectors to integrate with a host MCU board or with board-level components like sensors. GainSpan Wi-Fi iPhone App
Allows an iPhone or iPod Touch To Work with the GS1011 TLS Kit
This Application allows an iPhone or iPod Touch to work with the GS1011 TLS Kit from GainSpan. From the iPhone you can view the Temperature, Light, Voltage, or Relative Signal Strength of a particular TLS Node.
The GainSpan nodes populate the configuration page with their MAC IDs. PLEASE NOTE - All nodes must be pre-configured to operate with the iPhone SNMP stack. The TLS hardware has been delivered to your facility and must be used with this application over Wi-Fi.
Nodes connected to the network are populated into the configuration page with their MAC addresses displayed. The application allows the user to select a particular node from the list. Once selected, the tab bar along the bottom displays the sensor light, temperature, battery voltage or relative signal strength information updated periodically from the node. Shine a light on the TLS board and the light bulb will get brighter and display the LUMS value.
The configuration page allows the user to Get/Set different parameters associated with the TLS board – like the Update Value or the SSID.
By selecting a different MAC from the discovered nodes list, the sensor information associated with that particular node will then be displayed.
The GS1011 TLS Kit is also the GS1011MxP Evaluation Kit referred to in the section above with the following part numbers: GS1011MIP-EVK-S2W-WEB and GS1011MEP-EVK-S2W-WEB.
