TELIT Releases Smallest Combined GSM/GPRS/GPS Module on the Market

The new GE863-GPS from Telit Communications S.p.A. (distributor: GLYN) is the smallest combined GSM/GPRS/GPS Module on the market (41.4mm x 31.4mm x 3.6mm).

It combines Telit’s proven QUAD band GSM/GPRS core technology with the latest SiRFstar III ™  20 channel high sensitivity Single Chip GPS receiver.

The unique Ball-Grid-Array (BGA) package enables a very low profile and small product size to design extremely compact applications using location technology. Since all connectors are eliminated, the solution cost is significantly reduced compared to conventional mounting concepts.

With its ultra low profile design and extended temperature range, the Telit GE863-GPS is the perfect module for all compact, high volume telematics device and fleet management, tracking and security solutions.

Additional features like Jamming Detection, integrated TCP/IP protocol stack, Easy Scan functionality, Embedded FTP and SMTP Client, and direct support of an embedded camera offer extended functionality to the application at no additional cost. A package-compatible lower cost version without GPS (GE863-QUAD) gives the user the option to design one product targeting only GSM/GPRS or combined GSM/GPRS/GPS requirements.

As part of Telit’s corporate policy of environmental protection, all new Telit product comply to the RoHS Directive. Evaluation Kits for product evaluation and development are readily available.
